What is Individual Counselling?

Individual counselling is counselling focused on the individual's immediate or near future concerns. Individual counselling may encompass career counselling and planning, grief after a loved one dies or dealing with problems at a job before they become big. Individual counselling is a one-on-one discussion between the counsellor and the client, who is the person seeking treatment. The two form an alliance, relationship or bond that enables trust and personal growth.

Personal counselling is a process of self-discovery and growth. It can help increase self-confidence, improve relationships, solve problems, achieve educational goals, and make good decisions for emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual well-being.

In individual counselling, you and your counsellor meet one on one in a private, confidential and professional setting. The counselling relationship is safe, genuine, warm and accepting where your counsellor accepts you as you are without forming any judgments about you.  The counsellor listens to you and tries to understand your life situation, helps you to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions regarding your life situations.

The counsellor would help you identify aspects of your life that you would like to change,  help identify goals for yourself, enables you to manage your challenges better; work on improving yourself/your relationships and progress on the goals that you set for yourself.

You may discuss different perspectives and approaches to the challenge at hand.  You also explore and understand the emotional aspects of the situation and deal with them.
